Supported project: “Bwindi Hospital” at SRF.
Over the past ten years, Dr. Vreni Geissbühler, a doctor from Basel, has worked tirelessly to help women in need in Uganda. She specializes in gynecological problems, an area that poses a major challenge in many parts of the world, especially in developing and emerging countries. The Dr. Rau Foundation is proud to support Dr. Geissbühler and her team in this crucial project focusing on urogynecological care at Bwindi Regional Hospital.
Dr. Geissbühler receives remarkable support from her close friend, former Federal Councilor Ruth Metzler. Since retiring from politics, Ms. Metzler has dedicated herself to various social and charitable projects, and has accompanied her friend on several trips to Uganda. This partnership not only brings additional attention to the project, but also underlines the importance of solidarity and commitment at an individual level.
The last journey of this dedicated duo was documented by Swiss Television (SRF) in the program “Faces & Stories”. This report offers a deep insight into the challenges and successes of the project and shows how the efforts of Dr. Geissbühler, supported by Ruth Metzler and the Dr. Rau Foundation, are sustainably improving the lives of many women in Uganda.
The problems these women face are often complex and require not only medical but also social support. Dr. Geissbühler’s commitment goes beyond the provision of medical assistance; it aims to raise awareness of women’s health and significantly improve the quality of life of the women affected. SRF’s documentation of this journey allows us all to witness the immeasurable impact that such projects can have.
The Dr. Rau Foundation invites all interested parties to view this moving report in the SRF media library. Here you can not only learn about the profound work of Dr. Geissbühler and Ruth Metzler, but also understand how your support makes such projects possible. We are convinced that joint efforts and the belief in a better future can change the lives of many people for the better.
