Opportunities for young people
Life Choices aims to support people in South Africa in overcoming poverty. To this end, the organization offers a variety of services, including family counseling, vocational training, health programs and prevention, and the teaching of leadership skills. In this way, Life Choices helps to overcome social inequalities – an issue that is still topical in South Africa despite the end of apartheid.
Many young people in South Africa cannot afford vocational training or university studies. Around 54% of young South Africans do not have a job. At its Academy, Life Choices trains young people so that they can enter the world of work independently. At the Academy, students’ talents are specifically encouraged so that they can develop their full potential for themselves and society. The program also addresses the psychosocial health of young people.
The Life Choices social team carries out health checks and education in poor neighborhoods. In their mobile clinic, the team advises people on health issues and offers free HIV tests. Life Choices also educates pupils at secondary schools about topics such as HIV, tuberculosis, and violence through its Health4Life program.
